매끄러운 세계와 골칫거리들 A Smooth World and Its Troubles

2024 트라이보울 초이스 선정 전시 《매끄러운 세계와 골칫거리들》은 송도의 과거•현재•미래를 항해하며 자본이 도시와 환경에 끼친 영향을 살펴본다. 서해안 간척지이자 바다와 인접한 해양 도시, 국제 업무 지구로 계획된 첨단 도시라는 독특한 정체성을 지닌 송도는 기후 위기 시대에 도시 자본과 생태, 자본주의의 외견과 이면 등 다양한 논의를 발생시킨다. 《매끄러운 세계와 골칫거리들》은 유동적인 자본의 흐름을 바다의 매끄러운 해수면으로 비유하여 그 표면에 솔기를 내는 ‘부표’로서 참여 작가 김상돈, 강재원, 정소영의 작품을 선보인다.

Selected exhibition for 2024 TRIBOWL CHOICE, A Smooth World and Its Troubles explores the impact of the capital fluidity on both urban and environmental landscapes, navigating through the past, present, and future of Songdo. A man-made city built on Incheon, a midwest Metropolis of South Korea, Songdo has morphed its unique and versatile identities spanning from a reclaimed island that was once a tidal flat of the Yellow Sea, to an urban waterfront alongside Incheon’s coastline, and now an international business district recently reinvented with cutting-edge technologies. Amidst its urban and ecological landscapes, the city evokes questions on the surface versus underside mechanisms of capitalism ⏤ as if a buoy bobs up and down with the water flow, troubling the seamless sea. Featuring thoughtfully curated works by Jaewon Kang, Kim Sangdon, and Soyoung Chung, A Smooth World and Its Troubles presents diverse artistic buoys that introduce seams into the glassy sea of the capitalocene.
